Our new office space is coming along nicely! But as with the majority of renovation projects, delays are to be expected. In this case, we’re scheduling our most trusted trades to complete the work in between the demands of our other projects, so I keep smiling and repeat my current mantra: “It’s worth waiting for…” “It’s worth waiting for…”

Inevitably, the holiday season slows down projects in a major way for a few weeks every year. The upside is that we got to “unwrap” some goodies for the kitchenette: a microwave+convection oven, a snazzy wine refrigerator, and a new countertop. We’d had the undermount sink and faucet on hand for a while now (as all good renovation projects should), but it was very exciting to see them installed and functional.

functional luxuries

The beauty of all these kitchenette components is that they perform two functions. As you may know, we’re renovating our new office space, which is located in the lower level of our home.  This kitchenette space came in incredibly handy as a secondary prep area when hosting over the holidays. Who doesn’t want a second oven, a second sink and ample beverage storage? And a bit of peace away from the main kitchen madness, to tell the truth.

Though the appliance components may seem like a bit of overkill in an office kitchen, we are appreciating their value overall. No regrets here.

small details, well-planned

The sink and faucet were the first amenity to be installed, and I almost cried with joy at their pristine, shiny finish, and relief at having running water so close at hand. We’ve opted to remove the utility sink in the laundry room altogether – this sink area suits our spot-cleaning needs just fine.

The deep Pekoe sink and pull-out Essence faucet are minimal and well-proportioned to the counter area. The positioning was specifically designed to allow enough elbow room in this small space.

We’re still fine-tuning placement of the wine fridge, and I still need to read the finer details of the micro/convection user’s manual, but once the office is up and running, we’ll be incredibly well-served for lunch and après-work cocktail hour.

We’ve opted for a dramatic grey cabinetry finish, with colour and metal accents to be added. All in all, we have good progress, with much more to come.  Stay tuned!

Many thanks to Grohe Canada and American Standard for supplying the products mentioned above. We’re thrilled to see them installed in our beautiful new space!
